What Kids Really Think of River Rink

There are several sounds that go hand-in-hand with River Rink – the pumping music to get you moving, the shred of ice as skaters speed around the rink and the annoyed groans from little ones when the end of session sirens sound.

We managed to pull aside one of the smaller ice skaters from all the fun he was having to ask him a few questions about his River Rink experience before he sped off again to make the most of his session.

Name: Ted
Hobbies: Film-making, gaming and hanging out with friends
Favourite Food: Pizza

Have you ever ice skated before?
This is my second time. I ice skated at Fed Square last year too.

What do you think is the hardest part of ice skating?
Trying to push off, because I fall over! I’m still trying to get the hang of it. But it’s good because if you fall over, they have really good ice skaters here who come and help you up.

What advice would you give to other kids who have never been on the ice before?
Use the seal aid if you can’t get going which gives you something you can hold on to and push around. But once you get the hang of moving around, it’s easy. It’s like roller blading – you just need to balance.

Would you come back again? What do you like most about River Rink?
Yeah! It’s fun! I like that it’s all outdoors and there’s yummy food. I think we might get some toasties after I’m done ice skating. It’s a cool thing to do when it’s cold.
